Purchasing a used car can pose a great savings to yourself and value for money.
Take for example you can buy a car with the same specs same size for a fraction of the cost you would pay for a new one. Depreciation is also greatly reduced. Hell you can even earn money by reselling used car.

My cousin bought a used car and half the time its in the garage for repairs. Yes you probably have heard something like that before. You get into this situation when you dont know what to look out for when buying a used car. Of course a little of this can depend on luck but there are techniques and tips you should equip yourself with that can make your used car buying experience a great one.

Before you buy your car ask yourself what purpose the car is going to serve for you. This is going to affect the choice of your car as well as your budget. Ask yourself how much you are willing to spend on repairs. All this are factors you should consider when shopping for a used car. Carefully considered buying a used car can be more fulfilling than getting a new one.

Typically the older the car the more problems you would expect from it. This is however not always true. It is always important to look out for cars where the owner has kept a full service history. This way you can check what and when something was replaced. You can sometimes get an older car with many wear and tear parts replaced as compared to a 3 to 4 year old car where many wear and tear parts are nearing their lifespan.

When arranging to view a car try to arrange it in the morning where possible. You would like to see how it starts on a cold engine. Try to check under the car for any puddle of water or oil.

View the car from many different angles; make sure all the car panels are proper aligned.
Check the engine bay interior and boot for any signs of water leak rust bad welding. These are signs that the car has been in an accident and repairs were not properly taken car of.

Check the engine for any obvious signs of oil leaks and abnormal sound. Rev the engine hard and make sure there is no excessive white or black smoke coming out of the exhaust.

Suspension should not bounce up and down several times when going over a hump or when depressed. Visually check the suspension for oil leaks and unusual noises when depressed.

Gear changes should be smooth with no restriction when engaging gears. Make sure there are no crunching noises when engaging in all gears.

There should not be any noises when doing a U turn. Steering wheel should be aligned straight in the center when the car is traveling forward. When moving in a straight line let go of the steering wheel and make sure the car dont suddenly pull to one direction.

These are some the basic info you should know before you start shopping for your used car. Be sure to take your time and decide slowly. Dont be pressured into buying something you are not sure of. Always look at several cars before committing to one. This way you can compare the pros and cons of each one and will be able to make an informed decision.
