The 2009 Chrysler 300 Defined

The Chrysler 300 is a very distinctive vehicle based on the popularity enjoyed by its predecessors. For 2009 the Chrysler 300 gets a larger engine which is welcome as well as a few minor updates to the interior. The exterior of the sedan remains largely unchanged. For the new model year the 300 will be available in five different trim levels. The base trim is the LX followed by the Touring Limited the 300C and the 300C SRT8 trim levels. All 300′s are available with rearwheel drive though the Touring the Limited and the 300C are available in allwheel drive formats.

The 300 also makes use of several different engine and transmission combos. The base LX model uses a 2.7liter V6 that produces a mere 178 hp. The Touring and Limited trim levels use a 3.5liter V6 that puts out 250 hp. The 300C is the recipient of the larger engine a 5.7liter Hemi with 359 hp and the SRT8 version offers an enormous 6.1liter Hemi with 425 hp. The LX Touring and Limited use a 4speed automatic transmission while the remaining models make use of a 5speed automatic transmission.

For drivers seeking an exciting powerful ride the LX should be avoided. The engine is barely strong enough to power the vehicle from a stop much less to give adequate performance on the highway. That said the other engine models are much more powerful providing the performance needed for incity driving as well as highway driving. The SRT8 model is of course the most powerful with more than sufficient power and performance for any needs.

For fuel economy the 3.5liter V6 comes out on top with 20 mpg though the addition of allwheel drive increases this by a bit. The 300C gets about 17 mpg while the SRT8 gets a mere 15 mpg. Obviously you pay more for that powerhouse engine though for many drivers the trade off is more than worth the cost. The 300 also enjoys better than average steering. While no models feel sporty all offer nicely balanced steering and powerful braking. The SRT8 offers the least amount of body lean and the best grip on the road as well. Of course the ride quality of the 300 is of paramount concern; it delivers nicely. However don’t expect European refinement. The SRT8 again wins out in this department thanks to the better suspension offered.

The interior is nice which is somewhat of a departure for Chrysler. Wood and chrome accents dominate the interior with supple leather upholstery providing a nice place to rest. However a few cheap plastic pieces are still in evidence the legacy of Chrysler’s adoption of minimum interior design aspects. In order to take advantage of today’s low interest rates and get the 300 that you want you will need to find the right financing package for your needs. Do not limit yourself to dealer financing both local banks and credit unions can offer help as can online lenders as well.
