Volvo To Roll Out Cars In India
Volvo To Roll Out Cars In India
Volvo Cars announced last Thursday that it will roll out top product lines in India by the yearend. Product lines include the Volvo S80 and the XC90.
“The Indian premium segment is very positive and it continues to grow fast. By the end of the year we intend to launch our sedan S80 and SUV XC90″ Volvo Cars India Managing Director Paul de Voijs said. He said the company would import the vehicles directly from Sweden in three engine variants each. Engines include a 2.5 liter turbo diesel a 3.2 liter and a 4.4 liter petrol unit.
Asked about the pricing he said that it was too early to comment. “When we import the vehicles will attract a duty of 112.5 per cent. We will bring only one luxury line and our cars will be in direct competition with Mercedes BMW and Audi” Voijs said. He added the company has already appointed three dealers one each in Delhi Chandigarh and Mumbai for its kickoff in India.
The Volvo S80 is a midsize luxury executive car launched in 1999 as a replacement for the 960/S90 sedan features a new 3.2 L straight6 or 4.4 L V8 engine in combination with available fourwheel drive. The secondgeneration of the car is the first Volvo sedan to offer transversely fitted V8 with a power output of 315 horsepower and 440 nm of torque. With four catalytic converters and advanced electronics this engine is one of the cleanest V8s available these days.
The allnew S80 based on the EUCD platform is sharing the platform with its siblings Ford’s SMAX and Galaxy large MPVs. Notwithstanding the platform used majority of the Volvo S80 parts are made by Volvo alone. The exterior of the car is likened to that of the first generation but is greatly enhanced with higher strength boron steel in the body to augment safety offers. The interior is made comfy and luxurious that Weathertech may not be necessary.
The sedan also offers the Personal Car Communicator remote control as an optional feature. Before a driver gets in the car he is able to review the security level and know whether he has set the alarm and if the car is locked. It also offers a heartbeat sensor that warns if someone is hiding inside the car.
The Volvo XC90 a midsize luxury crossover SUV is based on the Volvo P2 platform. The SUV was updated with a subtlyrestyled front and rear. It was also given a more luxurious interior. A new V8 engine that produces 311 horsepower was added in 2005.
Already Volvo has applied for homologation at the Automotive Research Association of India Pune and the process could take three months to complete he said. Asked if the company was looking to utilize the facilities of its parent company Ford in India Voijs said: “As of now we do not have any intention for such a thing.” He said despite Volvo Cars India being under the legal umbrella of Ford India it would continue to take its own decision on product introduction and marketing.

Volvo Radiator Hose: Coolant Supplier
Volvo Radiator Hose: Coolant Supplier
One hot summer day while cruising on your Volvo you would notice fellow drivers staring at your car. You would pull over and ask. They tell you that your Volvo is dripping fluid apparently coming from under the hood. You drive to the dealership and mechanics there tell you that the fluid is your antifreeze. The culprit? A Volvo Radiator Hoses full of breaks nicks and holes. Your Volvo is equipped with top of the line parts and components. One of these is the radiator hose. The Volvo radiator hose is used to connect the engine and the water pump to the engine. Made from heavyduty and flexible rubber compounds your Volvo radiator hose should last a lifetime as it is highly resistant to oil and heat. It goes from the radiator into either the top or bottom of your Volvo engine. The Volvo radiator hose controls the flow of coolant to the radiator. But time heat and contaminants will eventually cause your radiator hose to fail. There are three types of hoses: the common hose the molded or shaped hose and the accordion type hose. The common hose is straight and does not take much bending stress before it collapses. It is made form rubber with fabric reinforcement. Molded or shaped hoses are like common hoses except that they will not collapse when bent as they have been already molded with bends. The accordion hose puts up with most bending and they also absorb some of the vibration coming from the engine and radiator. Your Volvo Radiator Hoses should be inspected at least twice a year in the spring and the fall. Also hose clamp connections should also be inspected so you could be sure that they are still secure and free from leaks. Your Volvo radiator hose is failing or is about to fail if it is cracking or shows signs of leaking. One way to tell is to simply squeeze the radiator hose. The hose should be pliable and should not show cracks when squeezed. That is the simplest way to tell if your Volvo radiator hose is failing but there is a more extreme form of failure. It is called electrochemical degradation ECD. ECD generates fine cracks along the radiator hose’s walls. These fine cracks extend along the inside walls to the outsides from one end to the other. Coolant and other fluids can seep through these cracks and cause leaks attacking the hose reinforcement along the side. The condition can worsen to a pinhole leak or a burst hose. Coolant hoses should be checked at least every four years or more as needed. It is also a good idea to change a part of the hose that connects to the cooling system. To illustrate when changing your radiator it is wise to also change the radiator hoses.
If you decide to service your cooling system yourself use extreme caution. Opening a hot radiator or coolant reservoir/overflow tank can cause severe burns. Be sure that both the engine and cooling system are cool before you begin any heating/cooling system maintenance or repairs. It is possible that your car may be equipped with an air bleed for the cooling system. Unless the cooling system is bled properly air may stay trapped in the system and cause erratic temperatures. In extreme cases engine or cooling system may be damaged. If you are unsure about any aspect of cooling system service don’t take chances. Have your Volvo looked at by a professional service technician.
You can be assured of a comfortable ride in your Volvo as long as your Volvo Radiator Hoses is in fine shape. They may not be as critical like other Volvo components like the drive train or engine but the Volvo radiator hose makes your ride comfortable and pleasurable.

Volvo 760 Turns 25
Volvo 760 Turns 25
Born in February 1982 the Volvo 760 GLE could be the proof of the automakers domineering presence in the auto industry. Twentyfive years ago the Volvo 760 GLE was introduced to the enthusiasts and critics alike. It has received a rapturous welcome from both the press and the public. As a fact it was regarded as having exciting chiseled features and elegant design hence critics said it is not a typical Volvo yet unmistakably Volvo.
The Volvo 760 was the car that saved the automaker back then. It created the foundation that created the modern Volvo Car Corp. However the road ahead its introduction was both long and tricky and for it to survive up to the present time only means highlevel of endurance and capabilities.
The year 1975 was said to be quite a tough year for the auto industry. It was the time when the world first experienced oil crisis. The pressure in the industry was amplified when the new Volvo 240 started to experience qualityrelated problems. Eventually the situation made it tougher for Volvo to build cars in Torslanda. Also it was not sufficiently rewarding to export cars.
In the 1980s the difficulty of catching the desires of customers was apparent. To remedy this mounting dilemma Volvo created a group to brainstorm formulate and plan the future of the company. The managerial task was vested to Hkan Frisingers hands and the position of Product Manager New Model and coordinator of the project was given to Hans Gustavsson a young engineer who later became the companys engineering and product development manager.
The burden was never that easy. We started to plan the 760 at a time when the prerequisites changed virtually every day. And there wasnt a whole lot of agreement either on what the car should be like Gustavsson recalled. For the first time ever at Volvo we used a meticulously carried out global analysis. Indepth studies and flexibility in our approach would guide our work onto the right track. But we really did feel the pressure knowing as we did that there was absolutely no room for any error.
For the first time in Volvos history we used product clinics to test peoples reactions ahead of the imminent product release. The findings were not entirely positive but in the US which would be the cars main market the response was immensely positive and people felt that this was a model that was entirely to their taste so we followed that line said Gustavsson further.
Gustavsson sums up the remarkable car by saying The Volvo 760 was a pivotal point for Volvo Cars in terms of product and economy and both it and its derivatives came to form the basis for the companys survival. Without the 760 there would have been no 850 without that no S80 and so on. The 760 project cost 3.5 billion kronor at that time. Of course the aim was that the 760 and its forthcoming derivatives should last throughout the 1980s.
All told 221309 cars were made in the 760 Series before it was replaced in 1990 by the Volvo 960. By that time it had earned Volvo a hale and hearty profit and had given the automaker prestige for almost an entire decade.
The Volvo 760 introduced in the United States in 1982 was discontinued after the 1990 model year and was replaced by the 960. The car was used as a police car in some countries. The said car boasts quality and tested auto parts and accessories that include Volvo alternator revised dashboard electronic climate control ECC threeposition tilt steering multilink independent rear suspension and a stereo system.
