Are You Driving A Death Trap?
Think about some of the terms used in connection with the vehicles we drive every day. Vehicular manslaughter. Road kill. Death trap. It may seem rather amazing that cars are so popular. And yet every teenager cant wait to get their license so they can drive to the mall or take their date to the movies. Meanwhile the elderly are often very reticent to give up their license to drive because it is seen as an end to their freedom and independence.
Frankly being responsible for the speed navigation and control of something that weighs at least 2000 pounds should be a very sobering proposition. Based on that one would think that vehicle manufacturers would never allow a lessthanperfect vehicle to leave their plant. One would also think that law enforcement would never allow a lessthanperfect vehicle access to our highways and surface streets.
However no matter how good manufacturers are or how good your local mechanic is there will always be vehicles with problems. It is inevitable that vehicles with defectives parts will cause automobile accidents. And sadly it is inevitable that some of those accidents will result in serious injuries or death to the passengers or pedestrians involved.
What constitutes a defective vehicle?
The label of defective vehicle is used for a variety of reasons. Some of the more common defects include:
- Seat belts
- Airbags
- Steering components
- Brakes
- Tires
- Electrical wiring
Keep in mind that if you are driving a defective vehicle and any of the defects cause you to have an accident involving another vehicle you will probably be held liable for all the damages medical bills and other financial aspects of the accident. Wouldnt you agree that is considerably less expensive to just fix your car and keep it in good shape?
If you have been unfortunate enough to be the victim in a defective vehicle accident get your experienced attorney involved. Accident claims are rarely cut and dry. Let the expert handle what they know best. In the meantime take your car in for regular maintenance checks. You certainly dont want to be guilty of driving a death trap.
